whats the difference between the 6968 and 6970 other than "compact"

Does that mean its a shorter/tighter stock?

Yes, the 6970 has a 12.5-inch trigger length of pull and the 6968 has a 13.75-inch length of pull. I have the 6968 and am very pleased with, more so given the price point and relative accuracy of the platform.

For a younger shooter, the 6970 might be a better option, and could be a feasible youth deer rifle given the light weight of the rifle, modest recoil of the 300 BLK round, and sufficient muzzle energy of the round as per MD hunting regulations.
