Mine spins off (threaded pipe) but I like the ramp with flap style better than mine.

One thing to note, the more "whip" you cause the more mud that'll sling depending on the speed you are running the line at.

My boat and Dipper/mate can get fairly muddy due to just having a U shaped pipe.

If you are ever on Kent Island, go to western auto. They have the scoops made from stainless (probably like the ramp you referred to). You can attach a rubber flap. These are much like what a lot of commercial crabbers are using. I think I have some left over rubber from when I did my flap, if anyone needs some.

If I knew how to post pics on here, I would post some pics of the one I made last year, it turned out pretty nice and very functional compared to other rigs I've had.

This is what I'm planning on building for this summer.

I think the 4" pipe (smoother/larger) approach will help with the slinging/wrapping issue.

Place that sells that stick has a guy who fabricates a SS ramp with flap also, pricey stuff though. Buddy if mine has one.

Oh goodness, this guy is like $299. But, its fully rigged and ready.

For something like this, I'd prefer to build.

I agree I bought the scoop from western auto but fabricated my own aluminum arm with 1 1/4" solid round stock that fits tight in a rod holder. Probably only had about $150 in the hole set up.

Yeah, that's gonna be literally half of what it takes to buy it ready to run.

I do get down that way every so often, I'll have to stop in.

Update: I bought two full trotline kits from Shore Sportsman. They didn't have a prop stick rig though, so I'm going to try to put something together using PVC. I've seen a few options online. If you have a great DIY design, post it here!

I made this a couple years ago out of 1 1/2” PVC. It’s worked well. The two short down pipes go into my stern rod holders.

If I can ever get on top of this radiculopathy in my arms. shoulders and hands, I'd like to get a jon boat and try my hand at crabbing too. Been a long time since I've been on the water... :sad20:

I am bumping up this thread to see if anyone has been out crabbing yet this season. I just got a report from St. Mary's county that the crabs have not been very plentiful so far. But that's just one fisherman, so I called two wholesalers: they were both selling mixed bushels for $200 per basket. That's kind of a lot...seems like supply might be low.

Has anyone gotten out on the water? How did it go? What method were you using? What bait is working?

I'm going to try trot lining for the first time next week. Can't wait...even if I only get one keeper crab, I think I'll still have fun.
