a hard hitting ar15 at 300yards... maybe 300blk?? i keep the 300blk and 458 for "deer stand" distances 0-50 yards.

Of those 3 I would pick the 6.5grendel. For your use a 6.8spc would be just as good. If you handload it opens open a whole world of possibilities. The 358 yeti looks mighty interesting as does the 7mm valkyrie and a couple others. I like the simplicity of once fired lake city brass and a harbor freight cut off saw for the yeti.

I built 450 BM and extremely happy, easy and cheap bullets for handloading takes any .451 - .452 bullet from 200 to 325 gr FMJ, HP and lead cast plus share bullets between my 45 and 450BM. Extremely flat out to 200 yards and drops about 5-6 inches at 300. 250-grain leaves the muzzle at 2200 feet-per-second with a whopping 2686 foot-pounds of energy and with hornady behind this cartridge it will be around for a long time. Problem with 300BO is you take the small 223 brass trim down short below neck and put a 308 on it no room for powder, limited range and the round isnt designed for nothing more than CQB.If anything I'd like to see a 223 with .257 or .243 bullet on it not 308.

The things you'd like to see are already done. 6x45 and 25x45. Blackhole weaponry. And you might wanna check your believed drop with your 450. Oh and 6.8 necked to 30 cal is done also.

Recommendations on a 6.8 upper? Budgeting $400 more than that, we're starting to get into a whole nother gun. :)

If you get a harder hitter, do you need to change out the buffer spring to account for more recoil? What pound spring?

White oak armory makes some nice uppers. A simple one sells for less than $700 last I checked. Might be able to pick up a bison armory for that same price. Stag used to have a decent 6.8 but they seen to have some problems lately.

27.5” as per batfe measurement procedure.

It’s a firearm. Not a pistol or SBR

What is everyone's favorite non 5.56 caliber upper for the AR15?

This would mostly be used for hunting deer in the western counties of Md, so hiking up and down some hilly terrain. Longest range might be 300 yds, but probably mostly under 100. Looking at the options, looks like it may be one of these. Non suppressed. Not stockpiling ammo or mags, just for sighting in and deer.

    .243, hands down...
