I first saw this here: https://www.gunsamerica.com/digest/legislation-ensure-90-day-suppressor-transfers/

The gist is that suppressor transfers would be 90 days or less. Is this likely to pass? Probably not, but still shoot an email to your congress people and let them know they should.

Still good to spread the word on what we should be looking at.

That would be awesome. I haven't purchased a suppressor in a while because of the wait. Now if we could get rid of the $200 tax.

No chance of making it through the House unless Rs regain control in November. And not sure even that would enable it, based on what happened (or, more to the point, didn't) to Hearing Protection Act when Rs controlled House, Senate, and White House.

HPA may have been a step too far. Requiring automatic approval in 90 calendar days would be a Godsend, though.

What beyond the normal NICS check is the ATF doing, as far as a background check?

Why is there even a different step, I mean ok if the GOV wants an extra $200, whatever but what exactly are they doing that takes 12-18 mos to "process" these and SBRs?

My question is why we can't get this passed in the stimulus bill or some other must pass. Dems put their pet projects in stuff all the time.

YMMV, but in calling the ATF on status of prior stamps, they always indicated that the FBI has a very small group that only does NFA checks and they account for 50-75% of the turnaround time..

At no time did the Rs have the control you’re referring to. Without 60 seats in the senate, Chuck Schumer is still in charge of what will or won’t pass.

    Must pass legislation?

You attribute to inability what is really incompetence.

You mean that Chuck Schumer is incompetent for blocking legislation his caucus doesn't like? Do you like it when Mitch McConnel blocks legislation WE don't like? Is it incompetent when HE does it?

Why do the (D)'s seem to get what they want added to must pass legislation?

Why can't (R)'s do the same thing. Because either they are paying lip service or are incompetent. I'm going with the latter.

The R's just stripped a ton of D pork off of multiple critical bills. Are you not recalling the huge hissy fit Pelosi had over immigration-related stuff when Trump said he would never sign off on a bunch of what she wanted?

Regardless, did you really think that the R's were going to get a suppressor bill through both houses (with the required multiple Ds in the senate on board) and signed in the immediate wake of two mass shootings?

Threaten funding of xyz for NY in the House unless Chuckie goes along with abc. If (R)'s don't like threats, carrots could be used.

The fact remains (R)'s are too incompetent to play hardball. Afraid of offending their enemies.

The Rs controlled the committees, therefore they could have inserted the text into any "must pass" bill they wanted to. Committee votes are majority only; filibusters are a Floor tactic.

Would Schumer have spiked a budget or debt ceiling increase bill over this very niche issue? Unlikely.

Congresscritters will put an effort into something their members personally care strongly about, or things that will gain them extra votes. Passing this wouldn't gain them anything because it's not as if the pro-2A Community is going to go out and vote D in the next election if they don't pass this stuff. And obviously not enough Rs care strongly enough about the issue themselves to go through the effort to get the language added to something else.

No I get that but what "extra" do they actually check that is different from a normal NICS check?
