Sweet! Have you started the search for your next one?
Picked up this S&W M64-5 DAO trade-in. It came filthy and ugly, but this is after a cleaning and bead blast by Duffy's and adding new service grips:

From what I can see, you appear to have a factory bobbed hammer.
Look on the crane in the area where “MOD 64-5” is stamped and see if you see an “NY1” stamp.
If so, you have one of the DAO 64s delivered to the New York City Police Department in the late 80s or early 90s.
Your “-5” is an 80s manufacture date putting it right in the time frame to be one of the NYC guns.
There were about 5,400 delivered.
Bobbing a S&W that is NOT a snubnose never made any sense to me, but NYC did it to prevent their old-school officers from reflexively cocking the hammer. They wanted that heavy trigger pull to cut down on discharges.
Remember that the bobbed hammer means it can slip out of any holster with an over-strap that relies on a hammer to hold it in place.
Nice Rugers. I’ve got an old Ruger security six that is built like a tank.
New stocks on the 586.
Last firearm purchase of the year. I went to the Chantilly Gun Show today specifically looking for this revolver. Trader Jerry's hadn't gotten any yet. The table further down had one, so I picked her up. BTW, Ruger didn't mark which cylinder was which caliber I'd love to find someone who could make a cylinder for me in 38-40. I'm going to the range tomorrow with a couple of ammo cans to test both cylinders. Should be fun.
Picked these 2 up yesterday. Have some parts coming next week for some tweaks to both. the 44 is going to get new grips and a red dot, and I am going to try Williams Fire sights on the gp100.
Interesting and very nice! I'm surprised the cylinder isn't caliber marked though. I know Ruger made a limited run of .38-40's some time back. Maybe they could fix you up with a cylinder for it. You would have to send the gun to them for it to be fitted though.
Unfortunately, Ruger doesn't do that. They'll only fix or replace a cylinder with the same caliber
That's a very cool keeper, especially with the Gura & Gottlieb autographs.
As one of the 6 people to snare a "citizen seat" at the US Supreme Court for the MacDonald vs. Chicago case, I had Gura & Gottlieb sign my copy of the decision, along with Otis MacDonald himself.
I don't always collect autographs, but when I do... it's G&G.
