If the Senate was able to achieve 60 votes and pass the House law, and you're NOT a Conceal Carrier now in Maryland, would passage make it possible for a MD citizen to carry (if they had another State's carry permit)?

The house version would. The Senate version would not. Final version would be worked out in a House Senate conference committee

Makes zero sense to trust visitors with ccw, while disallowing residents of your own state.

That’s exactly what will happen if the Senate version passes as written. It still won’t be enough to make MD change their law to allow carry by their own residents even while out of state residents can CCW

Have you met any of the high and mighty folks that pass laws in MD.:D

They would need to be threatened with arrest by US Marshals before allowing the regular guy in MD to carry. Because as far as they would be concerned out of sight out of mind. And no doubt they would force the concealed means concealed.

And Md , NY, NJ, MA , CA, HI, and likely IL would eagerly make Zero Sense , at least initially . Hopefully several of those would then face major pressure from own citizens to eventually rectify .

If you want to keep pushing for pie in the sky legislation delivered by the Easter bunny on a flying carpet made from amazing horse hairs, then ask for a National Concealed Carry law.

They had a chance back when Trump first got elected, but they diddled around and now, well, I'm hoping to be proven wrong.

Just top be precise, this is a National Reciprocity Law, not a CCW law.

    Huge difference IMO.

This just allows for universal recognition, not a National permit.

That is not what we're discussing

What is the alternative, spend all of our time on defense? The status quo debate is currently deep in our territory, primarily with AWBs. The only real gains we ever get are when we push the debate into regaining lost rights, not just trying to keep what we have.

This might well be a good bargaining chip if the screamin irrational snowflakes keep screaming about "gun control"

Much like the NPS carry provision was attached to the Credit Card reform Act.

We are in a game of chess. Let's be the chessmasters instead of the other side.

    I have an idea.

Let's stop talking about what we're willing to accept in exchange for what they want to take away. We should be battling to expand the second amendment.

We control all of DC. The Left has no say in anything right now. We should be telling the Left to F**K OFF.

The horse trading, that way too many gun owners are engaged in right now, could bite us in the butt come November. Stop thinking selfishly about yourselves. Stop thinking about trading away our gun parts for your national reciprocity. You want national reciprocity, then fight for it. As a stand alone issue. Or attach it to a non-gun grabbing bill.

Because the Bill of Rights is not the Bill of Barter.

As The SCOTUS has ruled, the 2A is not absolute. Part of the game of chess is seeing where we can make progress and where we cannot.

Pounding your chest and saying "it's my right" won't work any longer as SCOTUS and lower court rulings have demonstrated.

But your opinion is of course always welcome.

As Rush says, "I live in Realville."

    Me too.

The window of opportunity is gone at this point. They aren’t going to have time to do it before the 2018 election and after the 2018 election, our government is going to be a lot more blue. Republicans completely messed up electing Trump. Since he won, Republicans have lost almost every special election in the house and senate. 2018 is going to be a Republican blood bath because Trump has completely invigorated the Democratic base while alienating the people in the middle whom are needed to win general elections.

My only hope at this point is that Republicans can keep a majority in the Senate, keep pushing through conservative judges, and maybe even get one more SCOTUS judge before the 2020 election.

One funny thing, have had a few lefties ask me about "assault weapons", actually got a couple to buy into repealing the Hughes ammendment. "Did you know, Ronald Regan signed a law pushed by the NRA in 1986, it contained an ammendment preventing the ATF from registering fully automatic assault rifles, and preventing people from being able to get a background check on any model made since 1986. If the law is repealed, people would have to pay a $200 fee and pass a rigorous background check just to get a new fully automatic assault rifle, tell your congressman to repeal that". "carrying pistols in public should be treated like driver's licenses for cars(favorite gun control talking point), is a good lead in for the national reciprocity thing.

You guys want national reciprocity in exchange for AR15 bump stocks being banned.

What are you willing to accept in exchange for AR15 speed triggers being banned?

What are you willing to accept in exchange for AR15s themselves being banned?

This is what will happen when you open yourselves up to negotiations with people who have, but one goal. The complete and total destruction of every gun in America.
