    Clagett's letter:

It is my goal through all of this to keep the state financially sound yet not put an undue burden on any one sector of the population.

In other words, she'll vote for whatever taxes O'Malley wants.

Clip from over on the Sun boards.

If any of you guys are in Districts listed below, it is imperative that you contact these people and let them know what you think.

I think there is a real possibility that the 14 Republicans in the Senate may be able to get 5 Democrats to join them in a filibuster on the tax hikes...I have been paying close attention to the "swing" members, and it doesn't seem like MOM and David Paulson-Hamilton will get their precious "consensus"
Sen. Stone (D-6) - wavering, expressed serious concerns
Sen. Zirkin (D-11) - does not agree with sales tax
Sen. Astle (D-30) - traditionally sides with GOP on fiscal issues
Sen. Brochin (D-42) - outright opposed to tax package

This leaves fiscal moderates Sen. Roy Dyson (D-27), Sen. Mac Middleton (D-28), Sen. Jim Robey (D-13), Sen. Ed Kasemeyer (D-12), Sen. Kathy Klausmeier (D-8), and Sen. Jim DeGrange (D-32). If we can garner a filibuster in the Senate with any combo of the above Senators for this package, it could bring down the entire MOM tax hike! If you are in these districts, know people who are, or want to send them emails, make sure you keep daily or semi-daily contact with them, and let them know your displeasure. Remember some of these guys like Robey, Brochin, Zirkin, and Kasemeyer have expressed interest in higher office. A phone call or email saying you will never support their future endeavors has just as much impact as a constituent. FIVE Democratic Senators could bring this nightmare to an end...

Last push to stop the tax insanity

Folks, below is an e-mail I recieved from Delegate Lynch this evening. Please consider taking a minute to send and e-mail to the critters listed below.

If you can make it to Annapolis that would be great!

    Hope to see you Sat.

    Friends:

Thanks for writing me about the Governor's tax proposals. I want you to know that when I was first elected I made a pledge not to vote for more taxes, and I intend to abide by that pledge.

Special Session is now having committee hearings, and I want to let you know which committees are hearing pieces of Governor O'Malley's tax package. They are the Senate Budget and Taxation Committee, the House Appropriations and the House Ways and Means Committees. A member list for each committee with e-mail addresses is below.

I have already said I will not be voting for more taxes. If you contact these legislators as well, and forward this list to your anti-tax friends, you will be helping to kill this bad idea.

You may also like to contact Speaker of the House Michael.Busch@house.state.md.us, Senate President Thomas.V.Mike.Miller@senate.state.md.us and Gov. O'Malley at www.gov.state.md.us

Thanks for being a concerned citizen.
