So, I still haven't taken my 1858 out to shoot yet, but it got me hooked on the old style guns. I wanted a Colt type too, so I went for the biggest, baddest revolver ever made. The Colt Walker. And I lost. So, my fallback was this beautiful Colt 3rd Model Dragoon. Slightly smaller than the Walker this gun is also twice the weight of my 1858, despite being about the same length and caliber. But, I have 2 now, and hopefully Father's Day weekend, may get them out to shoot.

I still want a Walker one day, because, it's a Walker.

FWIW , the 3rd Dragoon has multiple design improvements , and is far better as an actual using revolver .

The 3rd model Dragoon with buttstock was always my favorite. It was much easier to handle than the Walker and the loading lever didn't drop down on firing like the Walker did. The Walker loading lever latch was pretty flimsy.

The Walker was the .44 Mag of the day but you needed a horse to carry the damn thing around.

That is the one thing I don't like about my Walker. :sad20:

That's what I read, but the Walker is still, the big boy. The one that makes people's eyes pop when you pull it out of the case. I still want one.

As a kid, me and my father shot a Navy Arms reproduction of an 1858 Remington. He called it "Old Smokey" and was an anniversary gift from my mother. We shot it a lot and I still have it today. It brings back lots of memories. The Remington does not seem to get jammed up with spent caps as the Colt models often do. Enjoy shooting that black powder!

I got some 220gr Kaido bullets for the Goon today. I do have a bottle of powder, but does anyone know of a local place that sell the Prodex pellets? I found some online, but a few won't ship, and the ones that do, have an expensive hazmat charge. I just want the pellets mainly as a quick method should I need them. Thanks.

Give Gun Shack in Mt Airy a call, they may have the pellets.
