    How do you get updates?

Call the NFA division of ATF at 304-616-4500. Tell them you want to check on the status of a form 1 or form 4, depending upon what you have in the system. They will ask for the serial number and then your name. They can then tell you the status.

I purchased a pistol within the last month and want to purchase another, I was told that not only do I have to wait the mandatory 30 days but also the extra 7 days. Is this true a total of 37 days between purchases ? :mad54:

I'm not sure but it's probably 30 days from the day you took possession of the gun, not when you bought it. So yea probably 37 days.

I'm pretty sure you can buy another pistol before the 30 days is up, you just can't do the paper work and take possession of it until the 30 days is over.

Call me crazy but I think you can even buy two pistols at a time but then you wait 60 days before your next regulated purchase???

Either way, get a collectors license and you don't have to worry about that crap. It's 1 sheet of paper, get it notarized, and it's free. Takes like 3 months to go through.

So from the looks of things once the check is cashed there seems to be a 3-5 month wait currently.

My process for a can :

    11/1 Sent forms out
    11/26 $200 check cashed
    12/20 Went Pending

Been waiting since July on the stamp for my can. :mad54:

When did your can go "pending" at the ATF? That's really the only date that matters in this game.

If you called your dealer in mid-July and ordered a can that he didn't have in stock, a mid-December stamp-in-hand would not be unreasonable (assuming you went through the MSP and didn't use a trust).

Noob question but what does it mean to go "pending" when your waiting for an NFA item ?

I believe it means it has been assigned to a reviewer and you have about two months left to wait.

Yes it's when your NFA item has been assigned to a reviewer. But your wait time can be 1 month to ??? months. I have had 10 items approved this year. The "Pending to Approved Time" ranged from 3-1/2 weeks to 3 months. Here is the breakdown by review time.

    Time from Pending to Approved:
    1 month(or less) - 4 items
    1.5 months - 4 items
    3 months - 2 items

All of these were done as "individual", not in a trust.

I ordered in person, filled out all of the paperwork, and paid in full.
I also purchased through my trust.

Called the NFA branch yesterday to check on the status with the s/n of the can, and was told that I was approved on Dec 13th.
Just waiting now for the postman to deliver the stamp to my dealer.

BTW - The lady I spoke with at the NFA Branch was very friendly and helpful.
I held off calling until now because I didn't want to be a pest.

That looks like a lot of work!

A Quicken willmaker trust is way eaisier. I've normally been getting approved in 5-6 weeks.

When you say you've been getting approved in 5-6 weeks, I assume that means from when you go pending? Correct? So if dwnthehatch's Form 4 was received in Atlanta on 9/29/10, he probably went pending about 11/1/10 - 1/7/10. That would put his pending to approved time in 5-6 weeks also.
