    Much obliged! The Internet Archive site has some very interesting stuff. ANDYZ28: This link will get you right to the document.

    http://archive.org/search.php?query=creator:"U.S. War Department" subject: rifle

    My attempt to open the PDF file, I receive the following message;

    "Adobe Reader could not open the ".................message.........." because it is either not a supported file type or because the file has been damaged etc.

    I have microsoft office.

    Thanks, Andy

    Go to either link provided.

    Right click on "PDF" and "save as" (or possible "save link as")

    Open from wherever you saved.

    Of course I'm assuming that you just tried to open from within the browser. Sometimes that gets broken and you have to try from outside.

    Now if your Adobe Reader is dorked, un-install it and re-install the newest version. If you have an older computer try something like Foxit, as the newest Adobe Reader is pretty hefty.

    Office 2010 opens PDF's also. I don't remember if the older ones do.

    I had a 1903 with a leaf sight on the back that had the TINIEST slot in it.

    That said, the sights were dead on when I got it, and never in all the years that I owned it did it ever lose zero or have to be re-sighted.

    And as for accuracy, I shot better (smaller groups, more consistent hits) with those iron sights that I do with many scopes. It just takes a second to line everything up just so. But trust me, the post and the notch are small enough to make precision shooting more than possible if you do your part.

    Marines made kills out to hundreds of yards in WWI with M1903s- they are accurate. The ladder sights are just not very user friendly or simple. It took me a long time and a lot of patience to start shooting decently with them.
