With all the rain, will they be popping up over the next few weeks?

The spore print is white. Waiting to see what the bruising color is like. This is a lot like the hen of the woods I am used to seeing except it is lighter in color and the caps are larger. And they usually show up in October for me.

Walked my whole property, and only saw this thing. Anything good? It was at the base of a dead tree (I think oak)

how to you save, or link a thread? i want to be able to easily find this thread again next time i find a mushroom
just bookmark it with whatever browser you use.

Or search Mushrooms as the title of the thread, there can't be too many of those.

That resembles what I have. What is it?

Chicken of the woods/sulfur shelf/chicken mushroom.
The give away (other than appearance) is a lack of gills and the presence of pores on the underside. If yours has pores instead of gills, you're 99.99% good to go- nothing else native has those characteristics. I'm assuming you found it at the base of an oak tree.
My second picture shows the pores.

Here’s a Black Staining Polypore I had growing on my property last year. I had a bunch of chanterelles this time last year but only a few this year. Maybe the rain will give me a second flush. There’s a group on Facebook called Maryland mushrooms and mycology. A bunch of helpful folks on there happy to ID shrooms.

    So these would be gills?

I would say yes. Pores look like tiny loofah sponges on the bottom, or "sponge like". Look at the center of the bottom picture in post #45.

It is not far fetched you have a Jack O Lantern, which are poisonous.
If you're not 100% sure don't eat it. The gills alone would be reason for me to discard the fungus in your picture.

I'm 100% sure I'm not sure, so I won' be eating it. Thanks

It could be a Honey Mushroom as well.
Here is my thought process when it comes to eating wild mushrooms...
There are four local species which cannot be mistaken for anything else with basic mushroom hunting skills:
    Morels (appearance)
Chicken Of The Forest/Sulfur Shelf/Chicken Mushroom (appearance, thick body and pores)
Maitake/Hen Of The Woods (autumn only, doesn't stain black)
Chanterelle (always in dirt, never on rotting wood) False Chanterelles look very similar, but their habitat is the opposite and will make you sick, but not hospital bound.

I won't chance it with anything else.
Do not take my info as being factual; do your own research. If you don't, you could get really sick.

More of what I think is chicken of the woods mushrooms. I dont really see pores on the underside though. It looks and feels more like a skin.
