This one was hard to resist, a Savage model 1907 Mod No. 2, S/N 9067 mfg 1909. Pictures are limited I'll send more once I have the pistol in hand.

Hard rubber or the early metal grips? Hard to tell from the photo. I've always wanted an early example w. metal grips but most I've seen were in poor condition. You grabbed another nice one! Great addition to what has to be an impressive Savage collection.

Based on the wear shown in the pics, I'd say metal grips.
Correct, when the model 1907 went into production in the year 1908 they were equipped with metal grips 1909 production then they switched in late 1909 over to hard rubber. Finding one with a decent finish with decent metal grips is a good find.

Savage did 5 different types of finishes on their pistols over there 20 years of production run, some of the most beautiful and fragile finishes were used in the first 2 years of production with the 1908 "rust bright blue", the 2nd year of production using "bright blue".

    Rust bright blue
    Bright blue
    Paint black
    Matte blue-black
    Matte
