Now that Alabama has revoked their laws on SBRs and SBSs (takes effect in 90 days, IIRC), ATF is going to be absolutely flooded this fall.

Two months is not bad. Congratulations.

By the math I've seen from everyone recently, I should be getting a Form 4 and two Form 1s back soon.

Time to start shopping for those uppers. And I should probably get my guns to Scott's for the mount installs for the suppressor I am hopefully picking up soon.

So my questions are, is this long 4> wait just MD?

If not, how much shorter is it if you live in a diff state?

If so,which state has the shortest wait?

Every state pretty much goes into the same tall pile when it hits the ATF NFA Branch.

The only time MD slows you down is if you go to the MDSP to get a background check. I think most of us are using trusts, which bypass that step.

I've picked out two more projects that I hope can mail in before the Alabama rush starts (1 July). 10/22 SBR and another AR SBR so I don't have to swap between 9mm and 223/22lr at the range all the time.

I hadn't thought of Alabama. Any idea how large the pent-up demand is?

It is Good 'Ole Boy country, after all.

I assume that people in AL will still need to get CLEO sign off? If so, that may spread out the federal NFA filings, depending how how smoothy that CLEO process goes. (Maybe they will all go as trusts?)

I looked around online, but I can't find the stats on how many Class 3 apps the NFA processes each year. My recollection is that the number is amazingly high.

I'm guessing that that not that many people in AL will file papers the first day it becomes possible, and then the CLEO business will spread it out a bit as well. The federal apps from AL will probably ramp up through the fall.

I plan on getting my next forms into ATF soon. This is mostly because I'd like to have the silencers before the weather gets cold, and right now it's about 90-120 days from mail to approved (or so it seems lately). I'll post the results of my current three forms when the get back (soon, I hope).

But the AL thing does suggest I need to speed up a bit.

    Good for you rsideout.

ar15dave: I bought an Osprey about two weeks ago and am still waiting on the Form 3 so it can make its way back to my FFL. Got it from MajorMalfunction. If you are looking, I suggest Bryon over there as his prices were top notch and his service has always been good.
