Could someone please tell me how to best remove the recoil rod from a HK91 stock backplate?

See attached picture. I am wanting to remove the recoil rod (red arrow).

Is the rod screwed in or pressed/swedged on the backplate end? (red circle).

I don't want to just take a set of "hawg jaws" to my relatively pricey parts and just start pulling and twisting with no direction.

    Thanks guys.

What does it look like when you separate the stock from the endcap/backplate? I've changed a spring, but not the rod.

    Q

It has a sort-of shelf that the spring sits on (like in the picture) but no flats or spanner marks for a tool to unscrew it like it was threaded. Looks like the the backplate end of the rod was milled as one piece. The thing has got to be threaded, I just don't want to start twisting it without knowing for sure.
