Single shot, low cost, break open gun. Are these good quality? Might make a good small game or survival gun. But I know their handguns are not so great.

    Is it an old one?

An Iver Johnson single shot .410 was the first shotgun I ever shot. Took a lot of clay pigeons and some woodchucks with that gun back when. It was ancient and had the crap beaten out of it, but never hiccuped.

    Good? No. Serviceable? You bet.

Just make sure the lockup and fit is good and you'll be fine. You don't want any looseness at lockup, no gaps in the frame/receiver. Everything should fit reasonably tight.

They were comparable to, and close competitor with H&R . Not fancy, reliable at price point below Winchester or Savage.

If the particular gun is reasonably tight, you will be fine to put it to use.
