My son took the course and passed it 2 years ago at age 8. He scored 100% on the written exam. My 6, soon to be 7, year old is chomping at the bit to take it. My son and I made the drive down to Sanner's Lake Sportsman's Club in late September to take the course. It was a Saturday and Sunday, and it did not take up the entirety of either day. Seems pretty simple to me.

Online Maryland course for people 13 years old or olders:

Available field days in Maryland after taking the online course. Looks like there are openings on the 14th of September.

OP, good luck with this. Hope you are actually able to track down your HS card info. I was able to get my brother's HS card from DNR after a couple of decades had passed since we took the course together.

How to request a replacement Hunter Safety Card:

thanks Fabs. I sent the request off to "Tiffaney" a couple days ago. no warm fuzzies tho, no confirmation of anything, no way to follow up on the request, just a black hole and wait up to 2 weeks for any possible results. I am thinking I need to at least do the online class just in case. I stand to lose my deposit on my NC trip if I can't get the non res license, not to mention my disappointment in not getting to go.

ok, but MD recognizes the TX hunter safety course (use the https://www.hunter-ed.com link to get to Texas). Just take it online at your own pace in the privacy of your home (the online course material is identical to MD, and the field day is a waste of time). The TX course is ok for a MD Hunting license, its recognized by the MD DNR. You could theoretically have your TX Hunter Safety today.

HUNTER EDUCATION FROM OTHER STATES, TERRITORIES and ONLINE

Certification from any course, including online instruction, which is accredited by the International Hunter Education Association, is acceptable for obtaining a North Carolina license.

Did a couple different Google searches to see if I could find anything saying that the Texas online course is accredited by the IHEA and I came up with nothing. Only spent 5 minutes dealing with it though.

Online courses endorsed by the IHEA. However, it appears that most, if not all, would require a field day.

If I was the OP, I think I would register for one of the field days in Maryland. The earliest is September 14th. Then, I would do the study part of it online. Of course, I would make sure that the course is IHEA accredited before really getting into it.

Do the Texas course. 100% online and no field day required. After passing the course you can print a temporary certificate to use until your actual one arrives in the mail.

Yep. That's exactly what I did about three years ago. Totally painless and the information it provided was helpful.

took your advice instead of waiting 2 weeks for MD to tell me if they could replace my card or not. breezed thru the TX course, and was able to get my non-res NC license... GOOD TO GO.

thanks everyone for the advice and ideas. this thread can be closed.
