Hello, Looking for some advice or suggestions on cleaning the front of a stainless revolver cylinder to get the front completely clean again.

If you have a gun cleaning kit with brass barrel brushes, run them across the front surface of the cylinder.

It's hard to go back and forth with the brush. I go in one direction with a sweeping motion, turning the cylinder face as I go.

I think a mild abrasive pad would be OK on stainless.

Keep it off the circumference of the cylinder though.

Swirlies belong in a toilet. Not on gun finishes.

A specifically designed lead cloth will make the front of the cylinder look like new without gouging it to hell.

You can use the Chore Boy copper scrubbing pads too, but make sure it's not copper plated steel. Brass wool will work too.

All of the suggestions noted work well. I use Blue Wonder. Works great on bores as well for lead removal.

Thanks everyone for the help and suggestions. Headed out now to pick up the lead removing polishing cloth and give it a try. Maybe a can of the Ballistol too.

Presuming the usual gun cleaning goop fails to do the job and you wanna avoid abrasives, try mineral spirits.

Ballistol works great. Stinky but, works great on Stainless Steel.

I just clean the revolver as usual and leave the "hard" carbon on. How many blued revolvers has that carbon still on it? Some of the deep carbon is discoloration of the metal from carbon intrusion into the metal pores. Not worth the wear on the cylinder face to just shoot it again.

Lead-remover cloth works well. NEVER use on a blued finish.

    Other methods I've tried:
    - Hoppes, big pink eraser, and heavy pressure. Marginal success. Lots of effort. Also works on blued finish.
    - Hoppes, brass brush, and light pressure. Good success. Medium effort. Can leave minor scratches.
    - Flitz polish, large bore swab, and light pressure. Excellent success. Minimal effort. Try to limit it to the cylinder face only. Otherwise be careful not to overpolish the circumference of the cylinder.

You are going to shoot it again aren't you ?

Sure , clean any physical build up, but slight discoloration is just a sign you actually shoot it. Do you pull the heads off your car every time you drive ?

Used to do that after only 1320 feet!
