I got stuck in some muck on the edge of a creek and thankfully had someone with me. It was all due to me looking for muskrats lol. Boots got sucked into some nasty mud. I guess about as dramatic as the time I got down a steep slope into a creek looking for a spot to set for otters, and had to choose climbing up that bank or going in over my hip boots. I managed to somehow get myself up that slippery bank.

BTW I got a deer. Cecil county. And another FU to Frosh and his ilk lol. Nice big doe and she ran a bit before dropping. I could hear her go down and thrash around. Turns out I hit gut then bullet went forward and hit lung/liver, so she was quartering a little ( she looked broadside but must have moved) AND it looks like the bullet went slightly upwards rather than downwards to exit and I was holding the gun at maybe 11 feet above the ground and deer at 40 yds. Something is always looking out for me. And check out that white whatever coming from her mouth. It was not raining or moist out and was using my phone camera that should not have been wet either. So another damn gut shot, but it did not affect the meat other than tenderloins. What was worst was the hydrostatic shock made jelly and there was a smell in one shoulder even though no gut anything could have gotten in there. I'm a bit upset at loss of meat due to this jellying. I was happy I did not blow out either shoulder, then to find this under the 1 shoulder. I am using I think 160 grain interlock .308. Heart girth chart has this deer listed as being 90 pounds or so dressed, but I am not sure about those charts. I got a lot of meat off of her though and only processed about 1/3rd so far. Rest I froze. BTW it got dark so fast after I found her and I got disoriented. I knew which way to go to drag her but it just kept going on and on walking and dragging her and was saved by the white plastic chairs my mom had in front of the blind lol. I guess the deer ran 60 yards at the least, as that was one long 100 yard haul. I did go get my plastic sled and that made dragging SO much easier after that. BTW talked to neighbor who said he or a family member gut shot a buck and he dropped in place, using a .270. This is one weirdass bunch of woods. I have called my land the Black Hole of Elkton for some 4 years.
nice, I believe you are talking about bloodshot. it happens.

Take this just as my understanding and I could be wrong but powerbelts are junk. It likely fragged instantly on contact with the hide, thus the large entrance trauma, then the pass through was made with whatever remained of the bullet. Switch to Hornady xtp 45 bullets in a sabot and thank me later.

Powerbeats did weird things for me this year too. This is the enterance and exit wound. If you look very closely you will see a perfect circle hole where the power belt went in. Bounced off of the ribcage and came out the same side. Strange. Mine was 245gr Powerbelt aerotip.

My buck above was killed with a 245gr powerbelt. One bullet sized hole in. No exit. Dropped in place.

This. Likely it fragmented almost immediately upon entry and only the core went all the way through.

I had a similar thing with a 12ga rifles slug. fist sized entry and nearly blasted the leg off. .72” exit wound (well guessing, slug diameter exit let’s call it). Some visible frag with mine in the wound. 15-20yd distance.

I’ve been using 240gr .44 XTP in sabots. 1.5” groups at 100 with a 4x scope and Blackburn 209 powder. With Pyrodex I had a nice broadside through and through with a big exit on my first deer (moderate sized 8-point double lung).

Next year I had 777, but same bullet. Spine hit, so can’t say much.

This year but 5-pt slight quartering shot. Low rib cage hit, heart shot, one lung and lodged under the opposite shoulder muscle. Easily 16” of penetration. Didn’t recover the bullet.

Partly because of that and the higher velocity that black horn 209 means I am going to try 300gr .44 mag XTP.

The 240gr 44 XTP haven’t really let me down, but I figure I might go heavier.

Yeah, cannot say I have ever seen entrance wounds/holes like what you guys are showing. I did have a Core-Lokt completely disintegrate inside a button buck though. Shot the deer from a tree stand at 20 yards with the .300 Win Mag and blood shot out of the entrance wound really high into the air. There was no exit wound and all the organs inside that deer came out as mush. Still want to throw up when I think about gutting it.

Ideally, there would never, ever be an exit wound and every single speck of kinetic energy would be deposited inside the deer. Ideally, a bullet will enter a deer, deposit all its energy within the deer, and what little is left of the bullet would be stuck on the opposite side of the hide. Granted, does not make for a great blood trail, but no blood trail is needed when all the organs are turned to mush.
