Volunteers get free admission to the show. (And there's nothing to prevent a little shopping before or after your shift.) Another thing worth mentioning, some vendors, upon seeing you have a vendor badge, will give a few $$ off a purchase. Not all vendors will do this, but it could be an added bonus for volunteers.

that I should work a booth some time. I was kinda eyeballing this show, since it's only an hour away. But...we've got a major project going on at work, and I could be called in at any time over the weekend. I don't want to make a commitment I know I may not be able to keep. 
Honestly, I may not even be able to make the show at all, and I won't know that...till I know.
