Fox News caught the end of Paul Ryan's weekly news conference and national reciprocity came up as the last question.

He said that there should be no special treatment for members of Congress in regards to reciprocity. Everyone should be treated the same.

He also said he didn't know where his colleagues stood on reciprocity. ???? Huh?

He said he supports it.

Too bad he does not feel that way about the ACA. He should have been Priebus'd a year ago

At some point the NRA will start asking questions. They can't simply be an organization only successful in blocking anti-gun legislation; they need to go on offense and pass something.

    NRA only wants to fight.

    Not win.

If they win then the money from the members dries up and goes away. They only want to fight enough to fool the members into donating.

    Respectfully, this is nonsense.

NRA has funded many a lawsuit and has invested millions into legislative battles; MD included.

NRA does a ton for what it is, but even the NRA can only do so much to convince allegedly pro-gun and pro-2A legislators to do the right thing.

It's not the NRA's fault that the Republican Congress is getting mixed signals from it's constituency regarding the importance of passing pro 2A legislation. The statists among their constituency are the ones creating the problem.

One thing to keep in mind when you hear quotes from "Police Chiefs Associations," the ABA, AMA, APA, or similar groups for Mayors, is that these organizations are almost all far left, even if the membership is not. The fact that big city police chiefs (appointed by Democrat Party mayors) oppose gun rights laws means very little. Start asking elected sheriffs what they think, and you'll see very different answers.

    Yes, this ^^^.

Remember the stage full of Maryland sheriffs during the 2013 Gun Bill Day? Mayors and police brass are all armed or have security details. Street cops have a different perspective on the matter, for the most part, even though it might put them at increased risk.

HOW does it put them at increased risk?

I think it's also a difference in mentality. In big cities, the police see it as "us versus them." In smaller communities, especially rural ones with elected sheriffs, the police see themselves as PART of the community. They belong to the same churches, eat at the same restaurants, their kids play baseball with our kids, and so on. Every ordinary citizen is not a threat.

Also, in the big cities backup is usually close and plentiful. In the sticks, you are more likely to be backed up by a citizen or two, rather than the other guy working that's all the way on the other side of the county.

Another big city LE argument is with people in civilian clothes carrying, it will make it harder to identify who's who. But training can fix most of that IMO.

Doesn't seem like a problem in shall issue states though.

In Chicago, I assume they would think everyone is armed

Wasn't it Ex DC Police Chief Lanier who made the point that DC is full of plain clothes LE carrying guns, so no big issue here.

    Here it is:

    https://www.washingtonpost.com/loca...f2f110c6265_story.html?utm_term=.0b63ddec8486

Delroy Burton, head of the D.C. police union, said this week that if civilians are allowed to carry guns, “the mind-set of officers has to change for how we have to deal with that.” But Lanier said Wednesday that is “not a big shift.”

“We deal with concealed carry every single day in this city, I don’t care what anybody tells you,” she said, citing the large number of plainclothes local and federal law enforcement officers. “Legal guns, legally carried, there’s hundreds of them out there in this city every single day. . . . That’s not a big training gap for us.”

probably was but it won't stop the Rahm Emanuels and Bill Deblasios of the US to try and make the bogus point anyway.

Heck I bet every street cop in Chicago assumes everyone is armed until proven otherwise.

Another lame attempt and preventing lawful citizens from carrying.
