So, I've been wanting to do this for a while, and finally found the right piece, and the right $$ to make it happen.

I found a very nice, gently used, JM stamped, Marlin 1894 in .44 and shipped it to Lee Hadaway at The Arms Room in Colorado. If you haven't seen his work, it's beautiful.

He'll be turning the rifle into a takedown, refinishing all the metal, doing a trigger job, scout scope. Possibly porting though I've not decided, putting on a big lever, and doing a custom stock in some beautiful quilted maple. Lee also agreed to send me a bit of the wood, and I'm going to try to get custom grip for my Dan Wesson .44 revolver to match.

The idea is to build something I will hand on to my son down the line, and hopefully he will pass on to his.

I haven't mentioned it to Lee yet, but my dad was a coin collector. I'm going to see about mounting a pair of Walking Liberty half dollars from my dad's collection in the stock.

It should be quite the piece when it's all done. And a hell of a shooter, if what people say about Mr. Hadaway's work is true.

As it comes together, I'll post pics and info.

Just excited and I thought I'd let y'all in on the build.

    I've got wood....

Lee sent me pictures of some of his wood blanks. I chose this beautiful quilted maple. The grain should be unreal and contrast really nicely with the gun kote nano black.

Hopefully I've attached the photo correctly.

    More wood....

Here are some recent pics of Lee's work. Two custom stocks he made, and a few he refinished. Just great work.

Gorgeous stuff. In addition to premium wood picks, it looks like he reblues the rifles as well. The color is really deep and inky on the left rifle with the incredible tiger striping.

Eta: I see you mentioned refinishing above.

I just caught myself, as a lover of lever guns, drooling over those pictures. I have nice Marlins, but someday hope I can own a 1886 Winchester takedown with octogon barrel. Congratulations on your rifle, what a treasure.

Lol, I am a bit superficial about my firearms, especially those made of wood and steel. Like this guy's taste.

    Almost done!

Lee says he's got a few more tweaks in store, waiting on a sling to go with the case, and Lee wants to show her off at a show in Denver this week, but I am blown away by the pics. Can't wait to get it out and shoot.

First, two pics of the stock in the early stages.
