I'm looking to get into reloading. I'm also thinking bout getting a "kit". Probably will be single stage. I see Lee has a "kit" (http://www.ableammo.com/catalog/precision-90030-breech-lock-challenger-p-104126.html)

    so does RCBS (http://www.ableammo.com/catalog/rcbs-9045-reloader-special-starter-9046-p-54949.html)

What are the experiences, I know that brands are pretty well known. But any "flaws" from the people that use them?

How about the "package kits" is it worth it to get started, knowing the components are going to probably get switched out with better components, basically just keeping the press itself.

So is what is the call here. Is it a Ford, Chevy thing. Or is there any real major differences. Are parts interchangable between the two? or manufacture specific?

I know that I probably should just stop wasting time and money and get a multi stage press. But money just won't allow it, so unless yall know of an avenue I'm missing (buying used, where to find).

Thanks for the direction, and the information.

Your link for the Lee just takes me to their home page.

If it is for the Challenger Breech Lock kit http://www.ableammo.com/catalog/precision-90030-breech-lock-challenger-p-104126.html

I would go with the Lee kit. It has more accessories such as the powder measure and hand primer system. It is also half the price.

The one weak spot in the Lee kit is the powder scale. I don't care much for Lee's cheap scale, don't really like the cheaper RCBS Scale either. I like my RCBS 1010 scale.

    http://www.ableammo.com/catalog/rcbs-9073-1010-reloading-scale-p-55103.html

If it was me I would buy the Lee kit and an RCBS 1010 scale.

FWIW I have a Lee single stage press I bought in 1982. Mostly use a Lee turret press now or a Lee Challenger 1000 progressive.

I was interested in both 3 years ago. The RCBS had the manual I wanted more and I figured spending a little more money might mean higher quality equipment, but I'm not sure if that's true. My RCBS Rockchucker came with the 505 scale and it has been good, but once again I don't know how it compares to the Lee. I've since gotten a Horady LnL and still use the 505 scale.

Almost every die will fit in every other press...(thus,every press will accept nearly every die). Every shell holder with fit every press.

Thanks yall. That is the type of info I'm looking for...hands on stuff.
So common agreement seems to go with the Lee and save couple bucks, but replace the scale. Sound bout right?

I have never used the Lee press BUT I feel that Lee makes a very good product for the $$$ . I have read where their Powder measure is a very good unit and I have used the Auto prime since it's early days and have NOTHING but praise for it.

I have RCBS but believe it is a case of 6 of one , half dozen of another. Both companies make quality equipment. However if you are going with the RCBS, look at rock chucker supreme reloading kit. Has a few more items, and I believe the press is a little more heavy duty.
One extra I recommend getting is a hand primer. Saves time and is much nicer to use than the set up that comes with the RCBS kit.

If you are just starting out I would recommend a single stage kit. Has most of what you need. Later after you have the routine down you can move up to progressives.
I load everything using RCBS presses and dies except for using Lee factory crimp dies where crimps are needed. I also use Redding competition seater dies where my precision ammo matters.
For most accuracy shooting, a single stage is better.
If you practice the spray and pray technique to hitting a target, using large amounts of ammo, then a progressive will be more toward your liking

RCBS hasn't let my dad or I down over the past 30+ years he has been reloading or the past 20 some that I have been. I recommend the RCBS because I have experience with it and not a Lee setup.

Thank yall for the replies. I need to really set to pricing kits.
Any input on where to find kits? Thinkin the norm, surf web, probably end up at Midway or Ables. But open to suggestions.

I have loaded a little on brothers Lee single stage, but looking to get a press at home, with less travel time. He is getting a little to slow on my reloads. LOL

More then likely gonna stay single stage, not lookin to pump out hundreds of "spray and pray" rounds. Leanin more for "tunin" some of rifles, and trying to keep up the hunger level of that new RIA 45.

Cabela's has kits that have everything you are looking for depending on the price range you have. It is a start to see what you can get elsewhere from MidwayUSA, Natchez, or any other reloading company.
