I was out exploring and found some shot up targets in a few spots and came across some spent brass on a nearby spot of high ground. Could get 200yd easy, maybe 300-400. How can I determine who owns the land? I googled and found a topo map of the state park and this place is definitely not within the park. Any online property tax maps or similar to see who the land belongs to?

Also took a ride around St Mary's lake and there were people shooting in the large field SE of the dam one treeline away. Anybody on here by any chance?

Also, you can look it up for free on the St. Mary's county GIS maps found here:

    http://www.stmarysmd.com/gis/

Click on the "Zoning Ordinance Map" link. Zoom and Pan to the property you are interested in. Click on the "Results Panel" GUI and select the property. Finally, click on the "DAT Property Info" link - this will take you to the Tax Info for that property including the present owner's name.

    Hope that helps.

Try going out to Zillow and entering a nearby address. You can usually pull up a satellite view and determine if a house is associated with the land. If you can determine the address you can also go to MD SDAT and search for the owner. Good luck.

So you are "exploring" on land you KNOW is not State land and yet you don't know who owns it???

No markings anywhere, closest thing is a small subdivision almost 1/2 mile away, definitely not associated with any of those houses. No markings anywhere, even when entering the state land that is nearby.

I found that county gis site, but I have only an iPhone and couldn't run that software on computers at work.
