I bought two surf spinning setups today for my upcoming OBX trip. Both are fast action.

Bait/small-fry rig: St. Croix Triumph 8' medium, Penn Fierce II 4000 Live Liner
Bigger rig: Tsunami Airwave Elite 9.5' medium, Penn Spinfisher IV 4500 Live Liner

    Can't wait to try them.

If anybody is looking for a local shop with beaucoup choices, I got everything at Tochterman's on Eastern Ave in Balmer. Outstanding folks. Very helpful. Incredible selection.

I've often wanted to go there but have stayed out of Bloodymore for obvious reasons. :sad20:

Well worth the trip. Free street parking all around. Lots of great places to eat nearby. I've been going to that neighborhood for 20 years and it doesn't bother me. My office is a five-minute drive from there on the water in Canton. I walk around Canton at night all the time. Lots of people are out at night walking their dogs.

Most of the serious crime is isolated to certain areas in Baltimore. Areas where it's obvious you shouldn't be there.

If you go, I recommend getting there from the east side of the Fort McHenry tunnel (exit 56). Much easier than driving through downtown past the stadiums.

Glad I found this thread, I just built a bait cannon, I'll post pics when I get a chance. I tried just a regular PVC ball valve and bubba'd a handle on it to get more leverage, PVC just snapped. I found this valve on Amazon, and it is super smooth and easy to dump.

Also am using a Dewalt 20v inflator do fill it, just dial in the psi you want and wait for it to fill. Haven't got to fire it with the new valve but the best I had with the first one was 110 yards according to my range finder, valve only opened slightly.

You don't need a cannon to cast 110 yrds. You can do that yourself with a decent surf rig and some practice. Check out the Pier and Surf forums Distance Casting section for good equipment suggestions and YouTube is full of distance casting vids

True. Unless you are an old guy with arthritis. :sad20: I could really wip them out their right up until about when I hit 55. Now I use 5' ultralight rigs which sure as shoot'n won't get out there in the surf.

That is true, but I am hoping for around 200yards on the current setup, plus I love gadgets and making things a little easier :)
