I was first in line for this M1903 that United Gun Shop listed in their consignments thread and finally got to pick it up on Saturday. Despite living in MD until a few years ago, this is actually the first time I've bought a firearm in person from an MD store.

This rifle has a few USMC or USMC-leaning features.
-Non grasping groove stock with a "J" in the cutout and a slight raised bump on the centers of the cross bolts. The
-Sloppy Hatcher holl that wasn't deburred and shows no signs of subsequent refinish.
    -Hand stippled buttplate.
-3-38 barrel with vise marks on the rear sight base, but no pipe wrench marks on the barrel itself.
-Patina on the front sight consistent with having had a front sight cover for a while.

The receiver retains bluing, so it wasn't refinished despite getting a Hatcher hole and a new barrel. The bore is decently shiny too with some pits and gauges 1+ ME and 3 TE.

Being ignorant of Marine Corps features I had to go trolling about for a little education. Thanks for posting a neat example and giving me motivation to add to my personal knowledge base! Before this thread I would have sworn that stippled buttplate was anything but genuine. Feel a little less stupid now!

Nice find. Just being a nosey body here, what kind of bolt did it come with? It looks like in one of the pictures ( Hatcher/Borden hole)I can see the gas relief hole in the bolt body but its a little hard to tell. Has it been bored out to a larger size?
Looks like it's in decent shape and should be fun to shoot.

Yeah, the bolt has an enlarged gas escape hole that's been crudely deburred with a couple passes of a file. It's a single heat treat bolt with a 1M code, which seems to be 1906ish.
