I have been thinking about a Japanese sword myself, almost pushed the button on one with NBTHK Hozon certification under $2.5k......should have bought it but I just don't know enough.

In the interim I have ask the Kailash what it would take to make one of these. It was on their custom page, looks somewhat handy for close quarters home defense.
I also asked. Forgot the price. Like $265 or something with mirror finish

Back in 2006 I bought a Cheness Shura (9260 Spring Steel) when they were selling them on Ebay. I think it was $200 back then.

I believe these are Chinese made but who knows.

I have cut a few 2-liter water bottles in half. My brother-in-law missed the bottle and hit the damn stump once.

A quick search found this Damascus Katana. Not bad for $300:

I would not call that Damascus. Folding only one type of steel then using acid etching to bring out grain is not true pattern welding (I knew the late Bill Moran). Supposed to be a combo of high and low carbon steel folded. I have one that is definitely Chinese. Supposedly 200 layers which would be folded around 8 times (2 to the 8th power) but doesn't look like that many to me. I have pattern-welded knives that show more grain that it does. I don't do any physical cutting with it, as it just looks pretty. I have a replica Viking blade that I do sometimes use for cutting.
