IMO, it's technically not illegal with a long arm. But just because you can doesn't mean you should... :nono:

    Don't be a jerk, dude.

He asked a question that a lot of people have. Sorry he doesn't have the "lingo" down.

If everyone on this forum had all the right info, this forum would not exist.

And maybe I am alone here, but the search functionality freakin' sucks on this forum. It's no surprise that dupe posts are frequent. I have an easier time searching via Google and then adding "mdshooters" at the end to find the forum I am looking for.

OP- Concealed carry in MD is difficult to obtain for the average joe and highly restricted. Mainly to business owners or individuals who have been able to prove substantial threat to their safety.

If you have a wear and carry permit in MD (CCW) then you may carry it either concealed or openly.

I appreciate it, especially your first line lol I didn’t want to say anything about it but definitely was thinking it.

So I can open carry my AR at a rally but if a cop comes up to me and says “this is a rally” then I have to leave? I just want to make sure I understood that correctly

Just be careful about local regulations. It's been a while since I looked at it, but Montgomery County has a regulation against long guns within 100 yards of a public area, or something like that. It's Montgomery County Code 57-11. Lots of mumbo jumbo nonsense, essentially making it illegal (or at least very difficult and limited) to open carry a long gun anywhere in the county.

Ah, thank you - I've been wondering where to find the actual details on "what's not completely illegal in MoCo"! Section 57, all about weapons (their term), available online here: https://codelibrary.amlegal.com/codes/montgomerycounty/latest/montgomeryco_md/0-0-0-27229

If you're stuck in this socialist wonderland like me, this is worth bookmarking.

Only applies to hanguns. Long gun open carry is legal.
Only allowed while on your own property unless you have a permit to carry:

    Again, only applies to handguns.

If you carry a long gun in a vehicle it has to be unloaded. This is a DNR regulation. Ammo does not have to be separate. You can have loaded mag right next to your rifle.

Hunting season and you’re afield. Private property, although the neighbors might not appreciate you strapping on the ole hogleg. Those are two instances, otherwise IDK.

Also, don't have a loaded, or load, or unload a rifle/shotgun w/in a WMA parking lot zone or other designated no fire zone.

In a car/truck, is a long rifle w/ a detachable magazine considered "loaded" if the loaded mag is inserted but there is no round in the chamber? I suppose yes.

If it makes sense or is fun to do, it is illegal in Maryland. This is the Socialist Democratic People's Republic of Maryland. NO! YOU CAN NOT OPEN CARRY ANYTHING IN THIS STATE.
