Thanks for updating this. HB614 was given a favorable report in the house judiciary.

I think the jury's still out on what the effects of this bill will be on SBRs and the like in regards to the FSA2013 -- at least that's the way it seemed in weeks prior.

    Updated in the summary thread.

If you could PM me as these click off, it would be helpful. I'm not regularly near a PC during the day for the next week or so.

If you're referring to the <29 inches prohibition, it doesn't seem to affect that.

It redefines "handgun" in the Public Safety Article, 5-401, which defines handguns for purposes of the HRB.

But the no SBR <29 inches is in the Criminal Law Article, 4-301, where it defines such SBRs as "copycat weapons" (what a stupid term to have used, just call it what you mean, "evil looking weapons") which are defined as "assault weapons" in the same section (along with "assault rifles" and "assault pistols"). They're then banned in 4-303.

    Of course, IANALaw/Leg.

This does not mean they may or may not vote on the bills...

It's starting to look like last year, the chairs are cherry picking which bills they vote on. Some of the ones that were presented on the gun bill days have been voted on, others not,

Let's not forget Mike & Mike run the show. Wonder how their campaigns were financed? Maybe some funds from Johns Hopkins?

No doubt! That stuff just doesn't make it to the MGA website it all ;)

Look very carefully at who sponsored this bill.:sad20: My take is, this is only the first step. Next session there will be a bill that says "SBRs are no longer handguns, they are rifles, therefore banned under the Firearms Suppression Act of 2013." No more AR or AK based SBRs for you!

    I hope I'm wrong.

If I remember correctly the bill's sponsors expert testimony said that SBR would fall exclusively under ATF (ie doesn't need to go on roster) but still subject to copy cat rules.

HB189 (House armored car company background check bill) was voted favorable with amendment by the House Judiciary
    http://mgaleg.maryland.gov/webmga/frmMain.aspx?pid=billpage&stab=01&id=hb0189&tab=subject3&ys=2015RS

HB417 Public Safety - Police Profiling - "Right-to-Carry" Permit was unfortunately voted unfavorable in committee
    http://mgaleg.maryland.gov/webmga/frmMain.aspx?pid=billpage&tab=subject3&id=hb0417&stab=01&ys=2015RS

HB614 Department of State Police - Handgun Roster Board - Definition of Handgun has passed its second reading
    http://mgaleg.maryland.gov/webmga/f...bjpage&tab=subject3&id=guns&stab=01&ys=2015RS

HB857 Criminal Procedure - Firearms - Transfer was given an unfavorable report and was withdrawn.
    http://mgaleg.maryland.gov/webmga/frmMain.aspx?pid=billpage&tab=subject3&id=hb0857&stab=01&ys=2015RS

As far as I remember, this was the only bill that the antis showed up to testify on in the house. My guess on the withdrawal would be the current supreme court case that would have direct implications on the transfer aspect.

It's dead. The committee is ok with profiling based on the use of a civil and constitutional right

No. Wait for that to happen, and there will be litigation. More than likely there will be some other pretext for the stop.
