For the past couple of weeks I've been reading bits and pieces of threads and articles stating the point that a #4 shot is a good choice for HD. Do you agree? For someone who lives in a condo/apt/townhouse - is the #4 shot a good alternative to a straight lead 00 buck.

Also, what do "they" mean when they say #4 shot? Are they talking about #4 buckshot or #4 birdshot? Any particular shot weight?

    Thanks!

Any buckshot would be a better choice. Sounds like the same old over-penetration fear by using #4 shot. Keep it simple, use what works and don't overthink it. 00B is what the military and police use.

00B is most common. If you live in a condo, and it makes you feel better, you can use 0000B. Know and ID your target before you shoot, and there won't be any over penetration.

#4 shot would make a righteous mess especially 2 1/4oz at a time. I personally use slugs for HD but would not hesitate to use #4 for anything but shooting over my kids.
