2016 Canada Hunting Trip

This year I was in Saskatchewan from 22 Sept til 02 Oct to chase birds. This year we hunted the Quill Lake area since my friend bought an outfitter up there. Quill Lake is one of the largest stopping points for snow geese in the entire migration. When the birds take off from the lake they can block out the sun. I prefer to shoot big Canadas but lots of guys go up there just to chase the white geese. Trip started off with pouring rain for the first two days. I scouted the first day and the guys who were already at camp hunted. The second day we shot a good field of ducks while wearing Tyvek suits and leaning against a giant grain storage sack. We're all about easy and good hunts!! Getting the trailer into fields was impossible for the next few days so we had to find hunts that were walkable with decoys or a field where the 4 wheeler wouldn't tear up the ground too much. One way to never get permission on a farm again is rut up their field real bad. Over the next week or so we shot snows, big and little Canadas, tons of ducks and Sandhill cranes. This is the second year we have had a good Sandhill shoot. Those giant birds will decoy just like a goose but they're the size of a small emu!! I also made a ton of jerky this year. Ran the dehydrator non-stop for nearly a week. If anyone is looking for a trip of a lifetime next year you should consider hunting Saskatchewan in October. The name of the outfitter is Quill Lakes Waterfowl Outfitters. Trips include lodging, bird cleaning, guides, decoys, layouts and everything else needed for a hunt. Just bring a gun and all of your hunting gear. Some days it is 62 degrees and sunny and 2 days later it's 25 with frost everywhere. I pack everything from my early season bow hunting stuff to my January cold gear.

Great hunt for your team, I was just north of you in Melfort, everything you stated is correct, early October, birds everywhere. Nice images.
