Standard Capacity Magazines

I did a search and I'm positive this has been discussed here but my search was less than successful. I'm in FL and would like to buy some standard capacity (30 round) magazines for my rifle. Can I simply put them in my checked luggage?

I've always mentioned it to the TSA folks at a smaller airport where you have to take bags through screening and they've repeatedly said no problem.

Not sure if Reagan is actually DC or not but the cabbie/shuttle might screw it up,otherwise what Boom and paul said.

The issue is how does he get home legally. Would be stupid to go through any part of DC. He should fly to/from BWI or Dulles.
