Well, at least the Nevada Chapter does today. Could the other 49 ACLU chapters be far behind in supporting all of the Constitution?:innocent0

ACLU Of Nevada Declares Support For Individual's Right To Keep And Bear Arms

    Friday, July 18, 2008

In a surprising break from the national office of the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU), the Nevada state office recently declared its support for an individual's Right to Keep and Bear Arms, apparently making it the first state affiliate to break with the national ACLU's position on the Second Amendment.

ACLU of Nevada decided to change its stance following the Supreme Court's ruling in the Heller case, which correctly interpreted the Second Amendment as an individual right.

A statement on the ACLU of Nevada website reads:

"In light of the United States Supreme Court's decision concerning the D.C. handgun ban (District of Columbia v. Heller), the ACLU of Nevada considers it important to clearly state its position regarding the right to bear arms. The Nevada ACLU respects the individual's right to bear arms subject to constitutionally permissible regulations. The ACLU of Nevada will defend this right as it defends other constitutional rights. This policy was formulated by our affiliate Board in light of both the U.S. Constitution and the clearly-stated individual right to bear arms as set out in the Nevada Constitution's Declaration of Rights."

Commenting on the turn of events, Ben Kieckhefer, a spokesman for pro-gun Nevada Governor Jim Gibbons (R), said, "Obviously, the ACLU in Nevada has seen the light on this issue, and we are happy they have. It adds to the long list of supporters of Second Amendment rights in the state. ... It is a state where the right to bear arms is held close to the heart."

"It's a testament to the rugged Western spirit of Nevada," NRA spokesman Andrew Arulanandam said. "We are heartened that there is a chapter of the ACLU that actually believes in the entire Bill of Rights."

The Bill of rights is an interconnected set of what the government cannot do. It is greater than the sum of it's individual parts. One cannot pretend to defend civil liberties without defending all of them. The ACLU chapters that do not are drowning in a sea of their own hypocracy.

I agree. You have to be defending all or none. I am glad the court decided it the way they did. What is scary is we were one vote away from it being taken away. God help us all if that happens because all hell will break loose. I ,for one, will not go quitely into the night nor hide.:mad54:

The Nevada ACLU still deserves ZERO respect, for taking this position.

In the above statement, they clearly state their decision was made, and I quote: "In light of the United States Supreme Court's decision".

If they had genuine courage, or respect for the Bill Of Rights, their respect for the 2nd Amendment would have come before Heller. Suppose the SCOTUS decided next year that the 1st or 4th amendments were invalid - would the ACLU suddenly change their minds about defending freedom of speech, or capitulate to warrantless search & seizures, just because the SCOTUS' "interpretation" suddenly changed?

The LIBERTIES guaranteed us in the Bill Of Rights - and NOT the SCOTUS' transient, occasionally fickle interpretations of those rights - is what the ACLU would be fighting for, if their true purpose was to defend Liberty.

What I don't get is why communist organizations like the ACLU are aggainst armed citizens, even Marx was for an armed citizenry, after all you can't have a "glorious peoples revolution" without firearms. The disarmament normally came after the communists were already in power, to keep the people from having a second not so glorious revolution when they find out communism sucks. If that is the case, who is in power now :shocked4:
