Alright guys,
For you 1911 fans, you know the story. You've heard the controversies, so I wont get into that. No need at this point.
I understand that the serial number has been known for some time. I also know that it doesn't match his diary.
I've been pulling a lot of AEF Small Arms files with the 100th anniversary of WWI ending around the corner and the Model 1911 data since the CMP is releasing the last stores the government has of them, and there's a fever going around.
Based on my experience with primary documentation this string of correspondence is extremely telling.
But here I'll let you guys read the files. The serial number is known, however the documentation is NOT.
Make your own interpretations. Not many others dumpster diving in Uncle Sam's Attic and putting this stuff online. I mean would you rather read the citation and people talk about what the citation or read the documents and talk about the documents?
(Also, copies were given to the Alvin York historic site, the curator was happy to receive them.)
