My permit expires in July. I sent mine in yesterday.

Due to large backlogs, VSP says to send your app in AT LEAST 4 MONTHS prior to expiration

No ink is needed, when VSP did mine it was electronic, which they then printed on correct fingerprint card.

That may be true now, but the instructions that came with my renewal cards explicitly said "rolled ink". I questioned it at the time and was told that "scanned and printed" prints were not acceptable. If VA has caught up with the rest of the world, that is great news. So OP, what do the instructions ask for?
    .

I am quoting from the instruction sheet that came with my print card from VA, just last week.

And BTW, I submitted the printed on the card prints to VA for the permit 5 years ago and it was fine.

I was issued my first VA CHP in 2009. IIRC I got my prints done electronically then as well. This has been acceptable for a long time.

Laurel Police Dept was close and hassle-free (and affordable) for me living in eastern Montgomery County.

Just recalled that I went there for one of my permits around 5 years ago. Very professional and easy process as I recall. Think I will go back there again and give it a try.

I suggest calling first. My recollection is their hours depend on staffing and might not be what their web site says.

I just did mine at Bel Air MVA. I called and made an appointment, but it turns out it was not necessary.

It is $20 for 5 cards. She did 4 standard cards (she supplied them) for later Form 1 or Form 4 needs. :D

Anyone know if any of the livescan places count as an agent of law enforcement?

I had my Virginia prints done both times at FYI in Ellicott City. The cards they did were acceptable the first time - I'm still waiting for my renewal to be processed. FYI scanned my prints electronically and printed the results on standard FBI fingerprint cards. They also did my livescan for my HQL.

Thanks! Second question, has anyone been to the "Geared Up" gun shop in Westminster? Their website says they offer fingerprinting but doesn't elaborate.
