My 80 year old mother had a mini stroke 2 months ago and Bethesda Naval will not see her for a follow up because she is over 65.
My sister happened to be in town when mom had the stroke and she took here to Andrews then they transporter her to Bethesda. Did the MRI and all the test there as Andrews has limited services. Any way on discharge they told her to call for a follow up with doctor Dave and after the run around with them and her primary doctor at Andrews (cause nobody knows WTF is going on) I took her to the TRICARE office and they were very nice and it took them a few tries to figure out what was going on. Neurology and some other specialist do not see patients over 65. I completely understand and explained to my mom that there are a lot of vets now that take priority with these specialist.
Doesn't help with mom's follow up care but I and now she understands.
It is a long story with military medical care for my father and her journey with this last issue but she knows now she needs to start seeing private doctors and stop going to the base.
So does anyone recommend a neurologist in the area that take medicare and tricare. My mom live in Lothian and wants to find someone as close as possible. I know, I know but at least within an hours drive.
Also I am not sure how TRICARE works but I believe it just picks up what MEDICARE doesn't.
Thanks
Tony
