I was looking thru the safe to photo a vz54, the czech sniper rifle built on a mosin receiver in the 50s. It was in the back of the safe but i had this SSG 82 near the front and i thought it even more interesting and a bit mysterious because no one seems to know what their purpose was. It is east german and fires the 5.45x39 rd and has a zeiss scope with matching number. Some claim its a sniper rifle used on the wall; others say it is an urban special ops rifle due to its light round. The barrel is hammer forgered with slight dimpling over the barrel exterior. This one has never been fired. It was love at first sight at the annapolis show many years back. If you know something aout it, feel free to comment.

From what I recall, it was used by police near airports and FRG/GDR border crossings. Few were made, fewer made it to the US, hoarded by collectors but I'm sure you know that

Can't imagine what this one cost you...

Someone on the forum posted photos of theirs before - was that yours?

I remember when they came into the U.S. in then 90s. Tell you what Ill help you get your money back $600, if I remember correctly that's what they wanted back then it seemed like a lot of money to a college student?

Seriously these were very odd guns, marketed as Sniper but I don't see how 5.45 could ever be that?

Better you having it than me...

I wouldn't be able to help myself, would shoot it.

I don’t care about the newness in terms of shooting it, but the reputation is that the triggers can snap from sideways pressure and the extractors can be very brittle. So i just haven’t shot it.
