You don't need dummy rounds to dry fire. You cannot dry fire a modern centerfire pistol enough to harm it. Competition shooters dry fire their pistols hundreds of times or more PER DAY.
One thing that has helped some people is balancing a penny on the front sight, and dry firing without dropping the penny. Develops smooth, straight trigger pull. And stop you from anticipating the sear break.
As Blaster states, if you are anticipating recoil and flinching, that is a different thing. Dummy rounds mixed in to show that you are flinching will help you work on that.
