Howdy guys, pleasure to finally join the forum after a few years reading on and off. I started running into a wall with online research on some of the projects I am currently working on so I wanted to join to connect with people who may have access to some of the firearms I have been looking into.

Professionally I work as a 3d designer/engineer so my main interest is designing and 3d printing my own firearms. My current project is a fully printed 10/22 build (except for bolt and barrel), with a Ruger P95 clone coming up next.

I own a Glock 17, 2 AR15's, a VZ58, Chinese Crap Mosin, 2 1022's (one real one printed), and some assorted skeet and trap guns. I usually shoot at Hap Baker or Loch Raven Skeet and Trap.

Pleasure to join you all here and I'm sure you'll hear from me soon begging for info on various guns. If any members would like some tips and pointers on getting into 3D printed firearms please shoot questions my way.

3D printed firearms always fascinated me. My own success with experiments printing random household stuff have been mixed at best, so I can't imagine trying that with something to contain a small explosion and send a projectile a specific direction with any sense of accuracy or durability. I've always wanted a metal 3d printer but that's way out of my budget.
    Cheers!

    Welcome!

I do a lot of 3d design and printing also. It's not my day job though. I use Solidworks, PrusaSlic3r, and an MK3S

Here are some of my things:
    https://www.thingiverse.com/euler357/designs

I try to make useful things that print without rafts/supports.

I just moved out of Baltimore City about 2 years ago and am now in Odenton.

Those designs look great! I haven't been 3d printing for more than a year or so, but 3d design has been my day job for the past 7 years. I'm surprised anyone on this forum would think that 3d printing guns and gun parts somehow violates the law but i guess that's just an old school mentality?

My current project is below, but is still on the printer so I'll just post the screenshot out of solid edge plus what's come off the printer so far. Ill upload a video of it in action in a few days when its done printing.

Generally you want to 3d print the components of a firearm that aren't involved with actually keeping explosions in, so like the frame of a handgun rather than the slide, or in this case everything in a 1022 build except the bolt and barrel

Looks good. Are you 3d printing the texture? or is it a post-processing step?

Biggest thing in my 3d printing recently has been trying and switching to the 0.6mm nozzle. Prints much faster with more strength and less resolution loss than you would think.

I usually use as many readily available components as possible in my designs. Gotta watch the pistol brace thing too. Legal vs Illegal is pretty unclear to me at this point.

Yeah I think the biggest issue there is that its unclear to everybody because of the current ATF back and forth on the issue. People have been printing brace designs for years without issue so the only worry I would ever have is the position on braced firearms in general, not specifically 3d printed ones.

The newer versions of cura allow you to generate a random jiggle in your outer wall gcode to create that texture. Its pretty good and you can set the parameters on it for more or less intense grippy surfaces.

I totally agree with you on the nozzles though, I intend to grab a .6 and a .8 for this printer. Do you usually print in .6?

    Braces are currently still legal.

The ATF did not follow the judicial departments request to do a better job with the wording.

The NFA should be repealed, SBR's in theory are actually less lethal. The NFA only came about because of crime during prohibition. This is an extremely moot point in 2021.
