yeah.. bone + metal = ouch!! i still feel it.. haha... i posted on the mg post
here's the less than $10 brass catcher.. just made yesterday and tested today..

thats 3 years wait. (you have to leave in yard for that long..before it can be used.. yes its scrap i found laying in the woods)

Sure beats a tarp. My yard is littered with .22. And the occasional FTF. Makes mowing the lawn a real adventure.

A while back I had the opportunity to go shooting in a field and being the silly goose I am, I did not want to lose my cases in the tall grass. 
I quickly whipped this up. It is not a brass "catcher" so much as a brass "blocker".
It will work from a bench or standing, to block the brass from pistol and rifles from flinging out into the fields.
It stands nearly 7' tall and is 5' wide. It fits neatly into a Midway rifle bag which allows me to carry spare couplers, a small screwdriver and a tool for tightening wing nuts.
Here is the play by play. (I tried to shink the photos for better speeds, but lost most of the resolution doing so.)
This is NOT my living room rug. It is a well used remnant on the garage floor.
Carrying bag.

Base folded.
U-Bolts, wingnuts and feet.
Hasp.
(2) Steel cross bases swing open 90 deg.
Tool for tightening wingnuts and small screwdriver for couplers.
Base unfolded and locked into position.
Uprights inserted and clamped down.

(Had to go outside to finish assembly.)
Uprights installed.
Frame assembled.
Rare earth magnets glued inside a fabric strip will hold the netting to the frame. Makes for easy setup and removal.
Fully assembled. Mosquito netting came from an old party tent.
It stands 7' tall and 5' wide. Big enough to block brass all day.

Ha ha! It's way too generic. If someone wants to rip off the design, it wouldn't be too hard.
I like it. It does what it's supposed to. A tarp underneath would make for super easy cleanup and would also fit in the Midway bag.

or rig some collapsible box of some sort.. bet the brass will just slide directly down anyways.
