I don't buy much these days but have been weighing one of these as a potential investment purchase. Not cheap but fairly close to what you can get in a Druganov style rifle here in Maryland. Given the price point a lot really depends on the optics quality. Anyone have one? Happy with it?

    Alternatives?

I've wanted one of these too. Love big bore odd stuff. Would go well w/ the Vepr and M76. Unless they stop importing them, don't think it would be a good investment.
I have the POSP 8x42D VariPOSP PRO on the Veprs. Its a decent scope for the money. Its no Vortex/NF/etc though. The 4x24 also gets decent reviews.

RobSki loves the M91. I certainly hope, for the price, it's a good rifle, and better than my M77 was. I didn't have any particular issues with my M77. It WAS a $600 rifle, so hard to bitch, but Veprs were 600 at one point too, the 308 and 54r. I will say that side by side the Vepr had a MUCH better build quality than the M77, and a chrome lined bore. My M77 had rough spots, machine marks, etc. I hope for 3k, the M91 is more refined. RobSki said they are a bit more accurate than the Vepr, but I just shoot my 54r Vepr because I have a ton of 54r surplus, not for accuracy. PSLs are around 1600 now I think. I think the M91s actually have a chrome lined bore too, unlike the M77s. Back on the original AKFiles board, I recall reports of premature wear and peening on the M77s, so I hope they got that resolved for the M91. I hope it does well, but I don't have 3k to drop on one.
