    1. Lobby Day is only 11 days away!

The General Assembly starts on Tuesday, January 11. There are already gun bills that have been pre-filed and more pre-filed bills are appearing every day.

Pre-Lobby Day dinner is on Sunday, January 16, and Lobby Day is on Monday, January 17.

Details are here and will be updated as necessary: https://vcdl.org/news/591219/VCDL-2022-Lobby-Day-Information.htm

    2. Shooting in VA rest stop, a “gun-free zone”

As you might recall, the Democrats in the General Assembly voted in 2021 to take away your right to defend yourself in rest stops, DMV, ABC stores, the General Assembly, the Capitol, and at any other state agency buildings and grounds.

And, as we knew would happen, it made things more dangerous, not less.

    3. Update on VCDL v CSGV and VCDL v City of Winchester lawsuits

As you recall, VCDL is suing the Coalition to Stop Gun Violence (CSGV) over a press release where CGSV said that VCDL was a domestic terror organization. A court hearing is scheduled on January 22 on a motion to dismiss by CSGV.

VCDL is also suing the City of Winchester over their prohibition of firearms in parks and at permitted, or should have been permitted, events and adjacent areas. A hearing for a preliminary injunction against the City of Winchester will be heard on May 6th. If we get the injunction, the City of Winchester will be prohibited from enforcing their ordinance until the matter has been fully litigated.

The wheels of justice turn sloooooowly.

    4. HELP: VCDL Watch Team for Local Government team lead needed for Henrico

Our current Watch Team for Local Government (WTLG) team leader for Henrico is moving out of state, so we need to fill that position. It is critical that we keep a close eye on local government now that they can prohibit guns in government buildings, parks, recreation and community centers, and at permitted, or should have been permitted, events.

If you find something is going on, just send me an email (president@vcdl.org) with the details and VCDL Leadership will take it from there.

So, if you are a VCDL member in Henrico County who would like to be VCDL’s WTLG team leader for Henrico County, or if you have questions on becoming the WTLG team leader, please send me a message (president@vcdl.org).

Here’s a video on being a WTLG team leader or team member: https://youtu.be/fxuhAm1qs-g

    5. BATFE contacting customers of Diversified Machine

If you bought any item of any kind from Diversified Machine in the past, you will probably be getting, or already have, a letter from the BATFE advising you that those items could be considered an unregistered suppressor or a suppressor component. (BATFE is in possession of Diversified Machine’s customer database and their order records.) You should talk to an attorney immediately.

If you are a member and have an item from Diversified Machine, send an email to me (president@vcdl.org) and I’ll pass your information on to an attorney who is handling this issue.

Here is a video discussing the Diversified Machine situation:

    6. Reminder on securing guns in a vehicle

Member Michael E. said that four firearms were stolen from UNLOCKED vehicles in a recent weekend in Loudoun County. (Of course, it doesn’t help that “gun-free zones”, such as they have in government buildings in Loudoun, require people to leave their guns in their vehicles, unattended.) But firearms should always be secured, and the vehicle should be locked if possible. They sell guns safes specifically for use in vehicles. The safe should be secured with either a security cable or by bolting the safe to the body of the vehicle.

Criminals don’t go through background checks. They get their guns through theft, the black market, and straw purchases. Let’s minimize the theft option.

    7. [PA] CHP holder in PA shoots and hits two carjackers

Two carjackers ended up in critical condition after being shot by their victim – one criminal was shot as he was starting to drive off in the victim’s car and the other was shot as he tried to run over the victim using a different car.

    Final score:

    Criminals - 0

    CHP holder - 2

    https://www.foxnews.com/us/philadelphia-lyft-driver-shoots-armed-suspects-carjacking

    8. [FL] CHP holder returns fire after being shot, kills one attacker

Remember: even if you are shot, STAY IN THE FIGHT! The victim’s wounds were not fatal, but the criminal he shot wasn’t so lucky.

The victim’s gun allowed him to stand up to a group of attackers and survive. He couldn’t have done that any other way.

    9. USA Today: gun shows are the gateway to becoming a Nazi

From an analysis of the article: “In other words, if you support our God-given right to self-defense as codified in the Second Amendment, expect to be sporting a swastika armband and goose-stepping to SS marching songs by the end of the day.”

USA Today has an agenda, including villainizing gun shows.

    10. Biden’s voodoo crime control

Gun control is not about reducing crime but disarming the public - and it is getting less popular day by day with police being defunded and hamstrung and violent criminals being let out of prison early.

    https://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2021/dec/28/bidens-voodoo-crime-control-americans-have-more-re/

    11. Most voters don’t see stricter gun laws helping reduce crime

More and more Americans are seeing through the lies and empty promises of gun-control fanatics. Voters aren’t buying into gun control and hopefully that will lead to gun-controllers losing power in future elections!

    https://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2021/dec/28/most-voters-say-strict-gun-laws-arent-helping-duri/

    12. Atlantic Magazine makes false claim about more guns, more crime

“The Atlantic Claims ‘More People Carrying Guns Tends to Result in More Shootings.’ Decades of Data Show They’re Wrong…the claim is pure fiction.”

    https://stream.org/the-atlantic-cla...-shootings-decades-of-data-show-theyre-wrong/

    13. Hollywood hypocrites flocking to gun stores?

No way to know if all the people panic-buying guns from Beverly Hills have a history of being anti-gun, but I’ll bet most are. Funny how a real-life threat can change how one thinks about gun ownership.

A lot of these new gun buyers are probably just now learning about the crazy restrictions, including waiting periods, that California has.

    14. Virginia Supreme Court confirmed “secured container” definition back in May

Back on May 13, 2021, the Virginia Supreme Court overturned a flawed ruling by the lower courts dealing with a handgun in a vehicle that was in a zipped-shut backpack. Virginia law says that a handgun that is in a secured compartment or container in a vehicle is NOT considered to be a concealed handgun. Secured means closed, but not necessarily locked. The Supreme Court affirmed that definition, saying that the backpack qualified as a “container” and being zipped shut qualified as “secured.” Therefore, the defendant was NOT guilty of being in possession of a concealed handgun without a CHP.
