    1. Some Lobby Day questions and answers

First, a thought suggested by a member W. Jackson – on Lobby Day we wear an “empty holster” in protest of our rights being violated when in the General Assembly or other state agency buildings.

    -

Q: Is a Virginia REAL ID required to enter the General Assembly Building?

A: NO. If this changes, we will let you know.

    -

Q: Is there a vaccination requirement to enter the General Assembly Building?

A: NO. If this changes, we will let you know.

    -

Q: Firearms are currently prohibited in the General Assembly and Capitol Square. Are there other options for self-defense?

A: Quite possibly. We will advise once we know what other options you have (until we get the gun ban repealed).

    -

Q: Lobby Day falls on a federal holiday (MLK Day). Isn’t the General Assembly closed?

A: NO, they are always open on that holiday.

    2. Action item: federal Violence Against Women Act contains gun control

There is some really bad juju in the Violence Against Women Act (VAWA), such as red flag laws, misdemeanors to take away gun rights, and money to prosecute more NICS denials, even if it is a false denial!

GOA lets you take action on this issue:

    4. Help needed: Richmond gun show on 1/8-1/9

The next Richmond gun show is scheduled for January 8th & 9th at the Richmond Raceway, 600 East Laburnam Avenue, Richmond, VA 23222.

The website for this show is:

    https://www.showmastersgunshows.com/richmond--va---raceway-.html

As of now, this show will have 800 tables, no occupancy limits and no time slots so this promises to be a very busy show!

We have many new members who want to know how they can support VCDL. Volunteering for a few hours at a gun show is a great way for both new and established members to get involved and support VCDL.

Helping at a gun show is fun and requires no previous experience. First timers are needed and very welcome.

Gun show volunteers are admitted free. Many of the exhibitor/vendors offer discounts to our volunteers. If you are a first timer, don't worry, we'll have experienced member volunteers on every shift to help you.

Right now, we have openings for all shifts.

    Friday, January 7th, afternoon set up: 4:30 - 6:00pm

    Saturday, January 8th, morning shift: 9:00am – 1:00pm

    Saturday, January 8th, afternoon shift: 1:00pm – 5:00pm

    Sunday, January 9th, morning shift: 10:00am – 1:30pm

    Sunday, January 9th, afternoon shift: 1:30pm – 5:00pm

Mark your calendars and start the new year off right. It's time to step up and get involved!

To volunteer for the show, please send your request along with your preferred time slot to: gunshows.richmond@vcdl.org.

    5. Pre-Lobby Day: contact your local elected officials now to lobby the General Assembly on 2A

If you have pro-rights elected officials in your area, such as Sheriff, City or Town Council member, Board of Supervisors member, or Circuit Court Clerk, you might consider urging them to lobby the General Assembly in support of our right to keep and bear arms. They can tell the General Assembly that they are being hounded by their constituents to do so. This would give us another set of important voices influencing the General Assembly on gun rights.

    6. Man charged with straw purchases

A Tidewater man, Kevin Staton, has been charged with purchasing 45 handguns over a period of time with the purpose of reselling them. That, of course, is a “no-no” (straw purchase) unless you are an FFL.

Staton’s lawyer says this, “Kevin Staton unfortunately exploited a firearm purchasing system in Virginia, which prior to the enactment of legislation last year permitted unlimited handgun purchases by an individual monthly.”

What the lawyer failed to say is that anytime you purchase two or more handguns within five business days from the same dealer, those sales are reported to the BATFE on form ATF 3310.4. So, government is aware of large purchases even without Virginia’s handgun rationing scheme of One Handgun a Month.

    7. Replay of 12/16/21 VCDL virtual membership meeting with Senator Amanda Chase

If you missed this month’s virtual membership meeting on Thursday, which had Senator Amanda Chase as a guest, you can watch/listen to the meeting here: https://youtu.be/4CWramX80F0

    8. VCDL GSL sticker front-and-center in a gun story

The magnified VCDL GSL sticker is on both the OANN story and the original Reuters article. The sticker was photographed at the range where the New York Hudson Valley Nubian Gun Club shoot:

    https://www.oann.com/gun-makers-challenge-new-york-law-allowing-lawsuits-against-industry

    9. Vortex supports VCDL by giving AR15.com items to auction

Vortex, a manufacturer of excellent riflescopes, red dot sights, binoculars, spotting scopes, and more, is once more supplying AR15.com with various items to be auctioned off to benefit VCDL!

A big thank you to Vortext for their repeated generosity in support of VCDL and Virginia’s gun owners, and to the members and leadership on AR15.com for making the auction happen!

    10. Fairfax County looking at expanding red flag law to keep an accuser anonymous

We know that when it comes to gun control, the intent of the gun grabbers is to create a slippery slope. That way, they get a foot in the door and keep expanding on that gun control year after year.

I’m hearing that Fairfax County is looking at doing that with Virginia’s Red Flag law. The expansion of Red Flag would allow an accuser to remain anonymous! So, the Constitutional protection of the accused being able to face their accuser would be trampled.

The solution is simple – we need to repeal the Red Flag law and such abuse won’t be an issue.

    11. Petition filed with U.S. Supreme Court to protect semi-automatic firearms

    https://www.zerohedge.com/political/beginning-end-gun-control

    12. Gun fantasies by Newsweek and Everytown

Gee, no bias in this story <eye roll>. The purpose of the story is to scare the Supreme Court into supporting gun control when they decide some gun cases in early to mid 2022. The story bases most of its information on propaganda created by Everytown for Gun Safety, which is owned and controlled by Michael Bloomberg. His goal is to have guns highly restricted (except for his cadre of personal bodyguards, of course) and any "studies" coming from his group are always going to reach the conclusion that we need more gun control.

    13. More thoughts on “shooting to wound”

William M. sent me this email and I think he makes some great points. I told William to consider his last point stolen by me for future use:

On shooting to wound. I used to have a newspaper clipping (Pittsburgh Press) from the late 1950's of an incident in Pittsburgh, PA. A city detective confronted a young man wielding a knife in a threatening and aggressive manner and ordered him to drop the knife. After repeating the order several times, the officer elected to shoot the man in the arm holding the knife to force him to drop the knife. The bullet deflected on the bones of the lower arm and entered the upper arm. In the upper arm the bullet deflected on the upper arm bone and entered the chest cavity. The bullet continued through the chest cavity left to right, severing vital blood vessels, exited the chest cavity and lodged in the upper right arm. The young man dropped dead. What I've been telling people since then is that there's no such thing as a little bit of deadly force.

The justification for the use of deadly force is the immediate and otherwise unavoidable danger of death or serious bodily injury to the innocent. Intentionally shooting to wound rather suggests that one didn't feel the use of deadly force was warranted, but it was applied anyway.

    14. Sad story from England- when a right is merely a privilege

One of many cautionary tales when government “grants” a “privilege” to gun owners. What government gives, it can take away, and without an explanation or valid reason.

Rights are irreplaceable and irrevocable for a free people.
