The NICS system, which provides for background checks, was agreed to only as a compromise, conditioned on the destruction of the check results after approval, so as to avoid a national gun registry.

If their new position is to go back in time, repeal that deal and adopt a gun registry, then our reasonable, logical response is that we do away with the entire agreement and law, and abolish the NICS check altogether. They got NICS background checks upon assurances that's all they wanted. Hold them to it.

That's our position. Unfortunately most of the R's are really rhino's and will sell us down the river.

What would a registry of all the guns already out there do, unless somebody wanted to use it for "something"? What would that "something" be, as if we don't know?

Licensing is not the same as registration.

The licensing is of US, must have a license to posess a gun.

The universal gun registration is just in addition to registering US.

They don’t want ID’s to vote but national gun licenses? Nope. Will vote against anyone that supports it.

That will be the crux of the Court case. SCOTUS has already ruled that you can't tax a fundamental right. Minnesota Star Tribune v Minnesota (IIRC). Of course, you can't show me in the Constitution a clear guideline of who can vote. It is just not in there.....

That is an excellent question to ask those who propose it, because a registry of "not the criminals" doesn't seem like it would do much to address crime. And given that actual-criminals won't be registering their guns in compliance with yet another law they ignore ... <scratches chin whiskers> ... there must be SOME application of a registry of legally-owned firearms, but I just can't put my finger on it.:innocent0

It can serve absolutely no purpose in preventing crime. MAYBE in solving crime. Probably not very helpful. Hmmmmm, I can't imagine a a purpose for this......

I believe it already exists, it's just doesn't capture FTF transfers or eighty percenters.

    .

It will eventually. That's why I only go for the 77%'ers. You still need to add another 3% to make it 80 though. After that, you're golden.

So this bill wants licenses for the individual and registration for the firearm. Easy to ban any given firearm from there similar to MDs pistol roster. This will turn out like the automobile system. A privilege. Did registration and licensing of vehicles make the roads safer? I’m thinking there are more children injured in the auto than by firearms. Building ones own car is highly regulated and so too would be a firearm, micro stamping etc.
