So my research has lead me to find out that newer 229's/m11 will allow the use of any 228/229 mag supposedly, however the older thinner, lower cap mags are supposedly not reliable due to wobble. Does anyone have experience with this in a newer 229/m11?

I ask bc I have a sort of old 229, I think built in 08-09 or something. I love it but am considering selling for a newer one, particularly a m11, mainly for the extra capacity in a flush fit magazine. Just not sure if its worth it, and its difficult to get rid of old faithful.

That's correct... The older mags were slightly thinner and lower capacity (13rd) - and have a bit of play in the newer 229's. The updated 229's take a slightly wider magazine that has a higher capacity (15rd). I've personally never fired a new 229 with older mag - too much play for my tastes.

Mec-Gar makes 15rd mags for the 228/229-1 pistols, so you can get 15rds in your old 229 with a thin mag and they are still flush mags... ;)

If thats the case Ill grab some of them. Although I should probably buy an M11 just to be safe too. If theres any question I should just have both.

Ive only looked for 226 18rders recently. Need more. Needed 6, now I/we need 11 total I believe.

One can never be toooo safe! :party29:

I have a couple sitting here now for the 228 I'm building. The 228 and 229-1 use the same mags, these are 15rd.

Working my way towards a 1911 build, it was the next logical step after building a G19 from a Poly80 frame.. :D

Just for some clarity, the 228 and older 9mm 229 share the same mag. The 229-1 mags are the wider body that will not fit in those frames.

I've not had a single issue with the wobble from using the older 9mm mags in my 224 (which can use the newer 229-1 mags since it has the wider frame).

I stand corrected... sorry, I'm not an Sig expert by any means and I had seen them referenced somewhere as a -1 and -2, thinking -1 was the first version, and -2 the second with the updated magwell. Thanks for setting me straight.. ;)

My build is a 228, so it needs the skinny mags for the early 229 and the 228.

The main reason I know is that I accidentally picked up the wrong mag once. Just trying to prevent someone from making the same mistake.

Since discovering the Mecgar mags, I've stopped buy the Sig branded mags. Can't understand why Sig doesn't market the flush fitting 15rd mags for the 228.

Seems like a lot of work, but I may need to get in to this. Ive got the signess and its worse than ever. Even transmitted it to the woman.... ;) lol

I guessed thats what he meant. Think I just need the m11 to solve the issue and have all variations.

Compared to most other 80%'s the Sig is no work at all
Very true... I have done the machining, just need to cerakote and build it out.. soon.

The 1911 will be more of a challenge, a bit more of a step than going from a Polymer80 compact frame to the Sig frame, but I like a challenge and I love to build things myself. :D
