US Cadet M1902 Sword: School Me

Alright, was in an auction today and bid 90 bucks to pick this up. I mostly wanted it as a wall hanger because it looked nice, but I have very little knowledge of swords in general. Anyone willing to fill me in on the history of this particular sword (besides just being for military cadets)? Also, did I get a fair deal on it? End value shipped should be around 140 bucks to my door.

I can't say much about that one, but I carried a slightly more modern one as an ROTC officer in the 1960s. It was purely ceremonial, but much more substantial than those used by fraternal orders. Yours appears to be of the same quality. The price is quite reasonable. Once you have it, check for the mark of the maker and you should be able to get a reliable valuation. I think you did quite well.

It looks to me to be a generic "military sword" as opposed to one made for and used by cadets (USMA) or midshipmen (USNA).

I would not be surprised if this came from a VMI, Citadel or Norwich U.
