My favorite was a child entrapment. We were dispatched (volunteers) and ran all out to get there thinking it was life threatening. We pull in to find one of our EMS officers already on scene shaking his head. Kid had his finger stuck in a wiffle ball. Three able body adults each with transportation and they call 911!

They were pissed when we used scissors to cut the ball and didn't transport the kid to the hospital. Then we made them really mad and handed them an envoice for the bill.
3 adults and nobody could go to the store for liquid hand soap?

How about they push against the Unions and finally let volunteers help out? Put the extra money towards new/more equipment.

Drives me nuts I can't ride in the DC ambulances and help out...

Saw a blurb the other day that they now want to contract with ambulance companies to take over lower priority trips.

I have a feeling that this will turn into a class-A cluster-F with situations where a private ambulance is 1min away but doesn't get dispatched to the call because the policy says so. Instead, the call will have to wait for a district unit dispatched from 15min away. After a year, the union drones and management announce that 'the private sector has failed' and they'll beg for more money to expand the district service.

The real problem is there is no accountability. I dont blame the DC FEMS (I love saying that). These guys have to take all these K2 and PCP patients to the hospital and no one stops calling because there is no accountability.
