Word is out that Antifa and their partners in crime are using lasers to blind drivers in those instances where they surround vehicles, and attempt to penetrate the passenger compartments to extract and attack passengers.

My cursory research indicates that there are various examples of eyewear that provide protection. It apparently depends on the technical specs of the source beam, with various products being indicated for different beams. This is not my area of expertise, but it is an area of growing concern.

What sage advice does our panel of experts have to offer?
    (1) What are the technical specs of the suspected sources of beams?
    (2) What are the technical specs of the glasses that would be effective against them?
    (3) What are products that you would recommend?

Thank you in advance for your guidance.

Welder's helmets might work, but they have, well, disadvantages.

I would guess that the glasses you'd want would depend on the color (wavelength) of the laser being used against you. On a related note, why is the Antifa so pressed to get into peoples cars?

Tell me about it. As a teenager I had the brilliant idea to wear welding googles as sun glasses on my way home from SPHS. Had my best friend not screamed in terror causing me to lock up the brakes and veer to the median, I would have rear-ended some stopped cars on Ritchie Hwy in a 3800lb 72 Buick going about 50mph.

My only claim to fame in life would have been the inclusion in the Darwin List.

Sounds like a good basis for an arrest for assault. Just pointing a laser at someone’s face is an attempt at malicious wounding. If these a-holes are so morally rudderless that they’re willing to blind people, then that needs to be shown far and wide.

And there's no telling what they intend to do after they've incapacitated you.

My “knee jerk” reaction if pointed with one and surrounded would be to step on the gas. “Damn the protestors and full speed ahead”!

Yep. I work with commercial lasers for both industrial processes (like curing adhesives) and telecommunications. The FDA regulates lasers, and anything above Class 1 generally comes with eye-safety considerations.

Laser-safety eyewear is generally tuned to a specific band/wavelenght, with the expectation that the wearer will be choosing appropriate lenses for an application. The stuff we have for the high-power infrared telecom lasers is generally ineffective for visible or UV lasers. There isn't an easy broad-spectrum protective lens ... other than something opaque like solid-aluminum.

Can we narrow down this consideration to the kind of handheld units reasonably available--in terms of availability and realistic cost--to Antifa types? Consider thye user and his/her intended use and sought-after results?

    1) close at least one eye
    2) step on throttle
    3) think about what car soap best washes off commie.

I sat one night in a Macdonald's drive up line. I started seeing red lights sparkling in my eyes. Some douche bag was lasering me from about 400 meters away. He was easy to spot. I wanted to pop up into his window, but my big mac was getting cold. He lived another day. I'm sure it was a kid...

In the Marinesvwe had a apartment off base...man cave before that was a thing. We had personal rifles and pistols there. One neighbor across the commons had a litter of kittens. I would point the laser all around getting the cats stirred up then put the laser on his body somewhere and the cats pounced as he slept. The laser was weapon mounted but I seperated the lower and upper. The guy would go nuts and never saw the beam.

Probably the green lasers some demented aholes have pointed at aircraft would be my bet.

Take a quick look on ebay. Red, Green, Purple, and some other colors are readily and cheaply available. Quite a few are more powerful than the 5mW limit; they state 5mW in the listing, but they are much more powerful-some will pop a balloon or light a match. Don't ask how I know :innocent0

And what are the specs for glasses or other paraphernalia indicated to counter this type of light ray? THAT'S what I'm trying to get clarity on.
