Serious question, cause this is freaky.

Is this really possible from a patch left over, or an alternative "soft" obstruction in the barrel? (Insects? Really???) Assuming the round was loaded to spec is this sort of accident possible?

If he thinks anyone is going to pay $1,000 for that, he's freaking nuts.

That was my first thought as well. But...the description says he's selling it to fund his prosthetic thumb. Maybe some wealthy sympathizer will want to help out? On second thought, it may not be such a crazy idea...

Apparently, insects can cause a catastrophic failure. My former gun smith (Brownie of Browns Gunsmithing in Westminster) had a shotgun blow up on him causing significant injury to his hands because there was a mass of stink-bugs in the barrel. He was out of commission for some time. This by the way is not why he is my "former" gunsmith... just found a better and more reliable one close by.

I would think that if there was a case to be made against Marlin for producing a defective product the rifle would be exhibit #1 and would be retained as evidence. Since it's being offered for sale so quickly after blowing up, the owner either knows the cause was not the gun or he has bad legal counsel.

My first thought. Even so, he has probably been contacted by a few eager lawyers just off the post. Because, you know, buzzards gotta eat.

I think Brownie finally retired a little while ago. I took a couple guns to him. I think he had an apprentice working there for a little while, but now his mailbox is plain, no rifle on it, no Gunsmithing sign, or crowded driveway anymore.

I put it on my GB watch list to see what happens with it. After seeing this as extra step in safety I'm going to check my barrel first before I shoot it. Especially if it is one that I cleaned and put away and haven't shot for awhile. You can never be to safe.
