CORRECTION - The above quoted text was from an April 16th interview, which was before the Total Ban on Outdoor Burning issued on the 18th. I believe the latter is more restrictive, and would prohibit campfires. So a contained charcoal cooking fire it will be - should do fine for marshmallows.

Do you know where to look to see if AACo has a burn ban in effect?
Good question! No, actually I got word from an email from the Severna Park Patch, which carries local and MD news stories, but on a whim, I did some searching and all I can come up with to find out if there is a burn ban in effect, is the following from the application for an open burning permit from AA Co... There does not appear to be an online source that I could find...

Thanks for looking around. The only thing I could find was the burn ban for large fires, nothing about fire pits. Called the AACo FD and they directed me to the department of health. The Dept of Health said that they only ban fires for certain parts of the year. Outside of those parts the burn bans would be on their website but I didn't see one for the recent ban. I also think that the person I talked to was talking about permitted bans instead of fire pit ones.

I will give DNR a call later on and see their take on it.

Curious to hear what you find.. Unfortunately, the link to the story no longer takes me to that story, it was about a week ago, so I can't go back to see if there was any more info about that one, but it was at the beginning of the dry week last week, so it made sense to quell any outdoor burning, though I rarely burn, other than a gas grill and occasional charcoal smoker, so I don't really worry too much about it.

I do have an old weber grill base that will shortly become a temporary fire pit so I can burn some of the excess small branches and twigs that I clean up in the yard, but I can pick a wet period to fire it up, so it shouldn't be an issue for the most part.

I did search the AACO health dept website and didn't see anything there either, other than if they ban permit fires, I suspect it would likely apply to small outdoor fires as well, but I really didn't see anything about the recent ban that the article discussed.

I called the DNR. The forestry division told me that they would have something on their site if they had a ban in effect. I think the main source will still be the health dept but I can't figure out a solid source from them as to when a ban is in effect.

I'll just be smart about it and hold off on fires when it hasn't rained in 2 weeks and the winds are whippin.

Call the State Fire Marshal's office.
