I attended the Feb. 06 hearing, but didn't make the short-list to present my oral testimony. (I did stick around to the very end, and voiced my name and opposition.) I submitted written copies, but want to make sure my concerns don't end up in the circular file. The first page of my testimony included personal experience with criminals, including two home invasions. Other people covered self defence concerns pretty well, so my personal experience isn't included here.
What I didn't see - the collateral damage associated with the "drift net" broad-scope language added to the Assault Weapons definitions section. Attached I have provided links to products used in the commercial construction industry - nail guns. These essential tools are used to fasten steel framing members to masonry and concrete substrates. Pneumatic tools don't have the grunt necessary to plunge a case-hardened pin into concrete. All of the cited tools meet the expanded criteria of an Assault Pistol.
This is one example, and wasn't difficult to document. During the testimony period, other collateral damage was described - the non-violent anorexic seeking treatment, or the active-duty serviceman stationed overseas. I really wanted to ask, "Exactly how much collateral damage do you consider acceptable?"
